How many Texas Longhorns can I have per acre?
Well, that depends on quite a few things. Like,
Where do you live?
What are the acres like?
Is there heavy grass, or is it mostly rock and cactus?
Is there water available?
Are you talking about any old Longhorn? Or pure Texas Longhorns?
Generally, if you are talking pure Texas Longhorns, then most of the people I have talked to say you can have at least 3 Texas Longhorns to every 2 commercial cows. Most of the people insist that you can have 2 to 1. But the numbers game is tricky. You can put Longhorns on acreage that might not even support commercial cattle, and they will likely survive and thrive. It is not just the fact that pure Texas Longhorns will eat well on stuff some commercial cows won't eat, but they are also generally smaller and hardier than commercial cows.
I don't know if this helped, but I hope it did.
